Check a Drive for Errors

CrystallDiskInfo is a popular option to check drives. On Windows, it can be installed from the Microsoft store.

It will report drive specs as well as SMART data. The data can be saved as text or image.

Example:

Other options include vendor specific tools like SeaTools from Seagate.

robocopy to list all files on a drive

you can use a command like this:

robocopy f:\ C:\temp /E /L /NDL /FP /NC /TS /xjd > c:\temp\robocopy-list-drive-f.txt

This doesn’t copy any files, just creates a file with the list of all files.

The /xjd is important to avoid multiple nested folder links from repeating.

glogg – the fast, smart log explorer

glogg will allow you to view very large text files that other file viewers can’t

It is great for large log files or file lists of an entire hard drive

glogg is a multi-platform GUI application to browse and search through long or complex log files. It is designed with programmers and system administrators in mind. glogg can be seen as a graphical, interactive combination of grep and less.’

SD CARDS Speeds and Ratings

This is the best summary I’ve seen for comparing SD Card speeds and ratings.

Short version, over simplified

C ratings – kinda old

U – older video rating

V – newer video rating

A – application, IPS, random access speed

For all the numbers, faster is better.
